Support Groups

First United Methodist Church offers a variety of support groups for our members and community through The Center for Creative Transformation. CCT at First United Methodist Church is a center for counseling, support groups, and many programs for healthy living. The Center offers professional counseling to members and non-members in our community, helps with professional referrals and organizes many of our outreach/nurture/support programs. Divorce Recovery, a five-week series, is offered several times during the year. The series offers support for adults in the process of separation and divorce. We look at each aspect of the divorce experience and provide share groups that are facilitated by previous participants. Suicide Survivors: The Healing Journey After Loss
Suicide Survivors:  The Healing Journey After Loss is a support group for any family members or friends who have had a loss by suicide.  Suicide Survivors is a unique grief recovery program for survivors. The groups are facilitated by a trained mental health professional and a trained survivor.  The group runs for eight consecutive weeks and is closed to new participants after the second meeting. The eight-week group is followed by monthly support. New groups begin every ten weeks. For more information please call Suicide Survivors at 817/698-9955 and your call will be returned.
 
Quarterly Grief Support Group meets for four weeks three time during the year, on Sunday mornings from 9:30 to 10:30 am or from 11:00 am to noon. Leaders are professionals within our church. The focus is to provide a basic understanding of ways to handle grief that are healthy and lead to healing. Opportunity is given for sharing personal concerns for those who wish to do so. Alzheimer’s Caregiver Support Group meets the first and third Thursday of each month from 10:00 a.m. to noon in Room 105 in the Justin Youth Building. Patient care is provided.  For more information, please contact Rev. Phyllis McDougal, 817/339-5082 or email. 
 
Beginning Alzheimer’s Support Group meets the first and third Thursdays of each month from 9:30 a.m. to noon in Room 101-102 of the Justin Youth Building. This support group, for those just beginning to learn to deal with an Alzheimer’s diagnosis and other forms of dementia, lasts for ten weeks and offers specialized information on Alzheimer’s. Narcotics Anonymous First United Methodist Church supports regular meetings of Narcotics Anonymous. Narcotics Anonymous is an international, community-based association of recovering drug addicts with more than 31,000 weekly meetings in over 100 countries worldwide. The program sprang from the Alcoholics Anonymous Program and is based on a 12-Step program of recovery. The Narcotics Anonymous program started as a small U.S. movement that has grown into one of the world’s oldest and largest organizations of its type.
